kid's books are good, do you illustrate them too? Some of the kids books out there are crap. Most, actually. I've written a couple but not seriously. just for my daughter. And poems, and short stories and essays. and journaling. I've yet to write the great American (or Taiwanese) novel, though. Too many ideas and none I want to follow through on.

I wish I could do illustrations. I have read that children's publishers prefer to mix and match their writers and illustrators.
You are right that many many many of the kids books out there are crap. That just encourages me to keep going. Getting published though is really a lottery with publishers getting 10 to 20 new MSS every day.
I'd also like to write a SF novel one day. Got no time at the moment. I'll probably work up to it with some short stories.

Me too. I have fifty million sci-fi ideas. Do you like Heinlein? I used to read "unsolicited manuscripts" at a publishing company, and most of 'em got chucked. Some I actually liked, but very few made it past me to the editors... and I was the receptionist!

Not read any Heinlein, but would like to give him (her?) a try. What do you recommend to start me off?

Have a look a Neal Stephenson. He is a good Science Fiction writer. Science Fiction writers like to be distinquished from sci-fi writers. Sci-fi writers write cinema crap. Heinlein, bless his soul, is a little dated.

i'm trying to write an autobiography of myself. (how vain) but its the only thing i know what to write about. i don't think i can write fiction and i want to write a book, so i am writing about the only thing i know the most about. its just a little hobby of mine. i have 24 pages so far. anyone got any suggestions, or hints about how to write a good autobiography? (i'm kindof writing it with entries from old diaries and in diary form)

yes that was indeed silly of me to write it that way...autobiography of myself. As if i could possibly write. but i did pretty good in school with writing even though i hated it.

A couple of us wrote 150-200 short stories in Creative Junk yesterday. Maybe we could redirect the thread over here.....
